PLACES TO VISIT IN THE TEST VALLEY
A county for all seasons, tastes and ages and less than an hour from London, you'll find Hampshire's countryside the perfect place for a break.
Romsey - just a short drive away is situated on the banks of the River Test, and provides a gateway to the New Forest. Pretty medieval streets surround the magnificent Norman Abbey, and nearby is the Palladian house of Broadlands, now the home of Lord Romsey, grandson of the late Lord Mountbatten.
Mottisfont Abbey - Built in the 12th century as an Augustinian Priory, and now owned by the National Trust, Mottisfont Abbey is now a house of some note and is surrounded by sweeping lawns with ancient trees.
The cathedral cities of Salisbury, home of the Magna Carta, and Winchester, ancient capital of the Kingdom of Wessex are both close by.
Cricket
Adjoining The Star Inn is the enchanting ground belonging to the East Tytherley Cricket Club. Two teams play regularly during the season, usually Tuesday evenings and Saturday afternoons.
The ground is available most midweek days and some Sundays for private matches.
This can be accompanied by simple tea or perhaps a barbecue, or a formal dinner if required.
