GOLFING

There are a number of well known golf courses close by.

The Forest at Bramshaw

Founded in 1880 and the oldest in Hampshire, this is golf in its most natural state amoung the ponies, cattle and deer of the New Forest

Bramshaw Manor

Although sharing the same clubhouse as 'The Forest' this more recent course could not be more different.  It is true parkland with steams and woods that shape the holes and create the challenges

Dunwood Manor

Another parkland course close to the New Forest.  Trees and steams add to the beauty of this course

New Forest

Not to be confused with 'The Forest' at Bramshaw, this is another New Forest heath course in lovely countryside.  Built in 1888 it shares many of the same natural features as its Bramshaw namesake

Brokenhurst Manor

Just to the south of the New Forest is this beautiful undulating forest/parkland course from 1919.  It is not long but the lovely streams, mature trees and well shaped holes make for a memorable round

South Winchester

Ten years ago Peter Allis, Dave Thomas and Clive Clark created this champshire links style course.  Built over chalk downland it is open all year round and because of its choice of trees is fair to all

Royal Winchester

This is another downland course of a more traditional parkland type first built in 1888 close to the city of Winchester.  It is renowned for its fine greens and all year round play

Ampfield

An interesting and challenging par 3 course some 30 years old.

Within 20 minutes there are a number of other courses like Hockley on the downs at Winchester, Romsey Golf Club, Wellow and Hamptworth.
